PETER KING is, in the words of one critic, the finest alto
saxophonist that Britain has ever produced, and one of the finest
in the world today (Dave Gelly, The Giants of Jazz,
Aurum Press, 1986).He has been a major influence on the British
Jazz scene ever since he played, (at the age of eighteen!), the
opening of RONNIE SCOTTS.
He is influenced by Be-Bop greats like Charlie Parker,
and he was was the only non-US artist invited to perform at the
Gem Theatre in Kansas City during a week of celebrations in honour
of the great man in March 1999.
Like all great players, though, Peter has his own unique
style. His endless list of credits includes Zoot Sims, Red Rodney,
Nat Adderley, Jimmy Witherspoon and Everything but the Girl, and
he has even accompanied Tony Bennett, Marlene Dietrich, James Brown
and Lauren Bacall.
Currently he is concentrating on his solo career, though
that doesn't stop him from taking time out to work with Charlie
Watts as a soloist and composer.
