Trevor Lines Vibeout - 27th June
feat Arabella Sprot (sax)

Arabella Sprot

Trevor Lines is one of the top regional Double Bass players and always finds there is a huge local demand for his services. He’s played for us many times both with the Blue Notes and with many of the guest acts that have graced the Corks Club stage
.

This time he brings his own band to the Silvershine Jazz Club, which he's calling Trevor Lines’ Vibeout. Unusually, it is a band with a distinct female bias and features Arabella Sprot (right) on saxophone along with Stella Roberts on piano, Lydia Glanville on drums and, giving the band it’s name, George Kirkham on vibes and bongos.

Arabella Sprot is a bit of a rising star on the national Jazz scene at present, and is always worth an outing in any line-up, whilst all the musicians apart from Arabella are part of the Project Cubano, Birmingham's favourite Cuban music enthusiasts. You may want to get your toes tapping in advance.

You can find out more about Arabella at http://arabellasprotgroup.com/

Drummer Lydia Glanville has her own site at http://www.lydiaglanville.com/

David Lloyd Henry & the Flat 5 Band - 18th July

David Lloyd Henry (AKA Gabby) is a Jamaican Guitarist with a unique style who’s worked with some of the big names of popular music, including Jimmy Cliff, Rita Marley, Wyclef Jean, and the Isley Brothers.

The core band will feature Wayne Mathews bass, Wayne Scott and Carl Richard on drums, Paul Riley  keys and Donna Sterling on vocals. You can always expect an array of great guests when Gabby brings his posse to the Corks and he already has three other vocalists, Jacob, Rebecca, Danieal all lined up!

The video below is from a previous vist to Corks and it features Peter Lewis, a young sax player who was presented with a saxophone by his church at an Andy Hamilton gig at the Corks just a few years ago.

Update:

We’ve just had this message back from Jo James of The Soul Providers about how much money we raised for Interface Uganda

“Hi Richard

£400....which is brilliant...adding up all the door money, the raffle, donations, and calculating for gift aid.

Thanks for your support....I know it wasn't the usual type of music but all in all the evening seemed to go successfully.

Jo”

I think we can all agree that it was a successful and well attended evening and hopefully it did much to help raise the profile of Interface Uganda
