John Smith & Malcolm Gibbons
Guitar Quartet - 16th December

John & Malcolm

Ace guitarists Malcolm Gibbons and John Smith return to the Silvershine Club to bring us some more scintillating Jazz guitar. John and Malcolm are two of the very best Jazz guitarists in the West Midlands and have played with some of the best the region has to offer including our founder Andy Hamilton MBE and Silvershine favourites the Steve King Big Band.

Completing the quartet are Ray "Pablo" Brown, who played on the Silvershine LP, on double bass and Hamilton family prodigy, Louis Hamilton Foad, on drums

This gig is a must for all lovers and players of guitar based music.

Soweto Kinch & The Blue Notes... the Music of Andy Hamilton

Friday 10thDecember

9 years ago local sax star Soweto Kinch played with The Blue Notes to open the Silvershine Jazz Club.

This Friday he re-unites with The Blue Notes to play the music of the late, great Andy Hamilton MBE. For this one off special we are moving to the Harborne Village Social Club, 3 Serpentine Rd, Harborne, Birmingham B17 9RD. It promises to be a great night.

The night will also feature young musicians who have graced the Silvershine stage including:

Opening the evening will be the Rebecca Wing Quartet, a very talented young group who are currently studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Steve Tromans
Thursday 2nd December

Steve Tromans is promising a return to his roots with the Jazz standards repertoire for his gig on Thursday 2nd December. He will have a top rhythm section in Mike Green (db) and Miles (dr) Levin plus guests including saxophonists James Tartaglia and Garry Bywater.

He plans on being radical by not being radical. Just expect some darn good music informed by a lifetime of experimentation and finding out what works.

This week it’s The Blue Notes, complemented by the melifluous tones of the wonderful Vic Evans on vocals.

It will be a Jam Night,
so bring your instrument if you’ve got one!.

Torin Davies Quartet
Thursday 18th November

Back in October Torin Davies provided the support act for US star turn Ari Hoenig. This Thursday he returns, headlining in his own right. His love of harmony led him to study Jazz Guitar at the Conservatoire, and he's already had the opportunity to perform with Dave Holland (at NYJC summer school) and Soweto Kinch among others.

Clearly a young jazzer on his way up he brings with him his quartet, also featuring our very own Aidan Amann (dr), plus Louis Stringer (db) and Dan Lockheart on sax.

Time to enjoy the future sounds of Jazz!.

Alfie Dean Quartet
Thursday 4th November

Alfie Dean is a virtuoso jazz guitarist from London, currently now in his third year at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. A former “Tomorrow’s Warrior” he is now working along side Blue Moon Records. Alfie takes a modern approach with regards to his tone and arrangements of classic Jazz standards, while still incorporating the traditions of Bebop and its language within his melodic playing. Alfie’s influences include greats such as Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Mike Moreno and Peter Bernstein, demonstrating his passion for combining tradition with modern approaches.

His quartet features Dan Lockheart (below) on tenor sax, Ben Love on bass and one of our very own young virtuosos, Aidan Amann on drums.

...We're looking forward to this one...

...Hope you are too!
